Fabric choice matters more in summer than any other season — it’s the difference between a kurti that keeps you comfortable all day and one you’re constantly adjusting. Here’s how the three most common kurti fabrics compare.
Cotton: The Summer Default
Cotton is breathable, absorbs sweat well, and softens with every wash — making it the most reliable choice for hot, humid days. It’s slightly more prone to wrinkling, but for daily comfort it’s hard to beat. This pink multicolour pure cotton kurti is a good example of a lightweight summer-friendly piece.
Rayon: Smooth and Low-Maintenance
Rayon has a smoother drape than cotton and resists wrinkling better, though it’s slightly less breathable. It works well for office wear where you want a neater finish through the day. This peach geometric printed rayon kurti shows the smooth, polished finish rayon gives.
Georgette: Best for Evenings, Not Daytime Heat
Georgette is light in weight but synthetic in feel, and doesn’t breathe as well as cotton. It’s better suited to evening or festive wear than to a hot afternoon — for example a floral printed Anarkali in georgette.
Our Recommendation
For peak summer daily wear, lean cotton. For office days where you’re indoors and air-conditioned, rayon is a great middle ground. Save georgette for evening events. Once you’ve chosen a fabric, see whether palazzos or leggings suit it best.
